The Light of Love
PARK – DAY
Once on the street, Alexander finds a park bench and sits. He breathes and takes notice of the people passing by. In the corner of his eye is a beautiful young woman running and he cannot take his eyes off her.
ALEXANDER’S VOICE
Wow. How beautiful. I feel like this woman is the best thing I have seen in a long time. I wonder what her name is.
She continues to run but is stopped by some hoods. They stand in front of her and block her path.
LILY
Excuse me I am running and you are in my way!
HOOD 1
Well, excuse us for bothering you. Now make yourself easy and hand over the shit! The hood motions for her. Lily smacks their hands away from her.
LILY
I am not giving you a damn thing!
The hoods keep persisting on Lily. They grab her arms.
HOOD 2
Wow looks like we have a tough guy on our hands!
HOOD 1
Maybe she needs a little persuasion.
The Hoods are trying to take from Lily. Alexander watches for a moment as the woman fights off the hoods. Lily kicks one of the hoods and he lets go. She then scratches and slaps the other. One of them pulls out a knife.
LILY
Alright, that’s it, I am sick of dealing with you asshole! Move out of the way!
Alexander rises from the park bench and makes his way over to Lily. As he steps closer, the men ignore him. Alexander steps in and tells the hoods to leave the woman alone.
ALEXANDER
Gentlemen, I believe it is time for you to make yourselves disappear.
HOOD 1
What!? Who the fuck are you!
ALEXANDER
I am going to dispose of this garbage so this nice young lady can return to what she was doing.
HOOD 2
Fuck this bitch, this one is begging to die!
With their attention now on Alexander, the men are now engaged in a fight with Alexander but are no match for him. Hood 1 swipes with the knife and Alexander dodges. Hood 2 steps in and throws a punch.
HOOD 1
Fuck this guy, He is going to get it!
HOOD 2
No tomorrow for you asshole!
Alexander grabs his arm and throws him to the ground. Hood 1 tries to stab Alexander but Alexander knocks the knife out of his hand and uppercuts the hood.
ALEXANDER
Just taking out the trash. Alexander easily dodges their strikes and counters them to the ground.
HOOD 1
Next time asshole!
The hoods rush off with nothing and Alexander brushes himself off
ALEXANDER
Are you ok miss?
LILY
Yes, that was very impressive! Thank you!
ALEXANDER
Not a problem, it is you that should receive the compliment, you did not even need my help! Lily laughs. The pair begin walking side by side, conversing on the rest of Lily’s route.
ALEXANDER
Does this happen to you often?
LILY
No, but it seems like the world is full of these assholes.
ALEXANDER
That is true, it is more common nowadays to run into shit when you don’t even have a dog! Lily laughs.
LILY
Where did you learn to be such a hero?
ALEXANDER
Hero? No, I am just helping preserve what is good in life.
LILY
Well, I will just consider myself lucky then.
The conversation lasts about an hour or so as they reach Lily’s home.
LILY
Well, this has been an awkward meeting.
ALEXANDER
Different, but rather nice, I would have to say. Could there be a chance that this could happen again? More formally?
LILY
Hmm, you did defend my life but…
ALEXANDER
How about I leave you my phone number and you can call me or by chance we go on another run in the park?
LILY
I think we leave it up to chance, but I’ll take your number just in case.
Lily winks at Alexander and then turns around to walk in her home.
INT. ALEXANDER’S HOME – DAY
As Alexander wakes up, he slowly gets out of bed and timely gets ready for the day. He is thinking about skipping the park and going to find work.
ALEXANDER
No park today. That is a dead end. Trouble will either find me or, nothing…
When before he gets to the door, his phone rings. He does not recognize the number but answers confused.
ALEXANDER
Hello?
Lily speaks on the other end and Alexander begins to smile. He doesn’t explain to her that he missed her two days but lets her know that he was in hopes of seeing her again.
LILY
Hello? Is this the man from the park?
ALEXANDER
Uh yes, yes it is!
LILY
Hi, sorry, I was afraid to call you, I was not sure this would be you!
ALEXANDER
There would be so much missed if it wasn’t!
LILY
Oh my god, I am so relieved!
ALEXANDER
Funny, no one really has that impression of me!
LILY

ALEXANDER
Well ok. I was hoping you would call.
LILY
That makes two of us. I was thinking about it for so long and I finally said, why not. He kicked those guy’s asses!
Alexander laughs.
ALEXANDER
Your wish is my command. I was wondering if you would like to meet for dinner, without assholes of course.
LILY
Hmmmm… That is a tempting offer. Well how about….
Alexander feels anxious again.
LILY
Yes! I would love to.
The conversation lasts about an hour and they set up a dinner date. Alexander finishes the call and begins to smile.
ALEXANDER
There is a nice little café around the corner from me, near the park. Are you familiar with it?
LILY
Ummm yes, I think so.
ALEXANDER
Well they have a great dinner menu. How about I text you the address and we can meet at, let’s say, eight o’clock?
LILY
Sure that sounds good!
ALEXANDER
Great! See you then.
Alexander hangs up. By the end of the week, Alexander and Lily meet at a nice Italian restaurant. The Conversation is good and both are delighted at each other’s presence.
INT. ITALIAN RESTAURANT – NIGHT
Alexander and Lily are eating and drinking while laughing at each other.
ALEXANDER
So where did you learn to be so tough?
LILY
Oh, my father taught me not to take any crap from people. Laughing
LILY
Where did you learn how to fight?!
ALEXANDER
He pauses
I like to run.
Lily laughs.
LILY
Oh! Well I need to keep up with you. Maybe we can go running together.
Alexander wipes his mouth and stares at Lily.
ALEXANDER
Oh sure, keeping a nice physique is important, but it’s the mentality that can either guide you or break you down.
Alexander takes a sip of water and gives Lily a playful gaze.
LILY
Wise words from a wise man. You know, I like how you keep up with me, so charming. Lily gazes back with a deep look of pleasure.
Alexander tries to hide his blushing and regains himself.
ALEXANDER
Without a balance of mind and body, your greatest enemy can be yourself.
Lily takes a sip of her wine.
LILY

ALEXANDER

Wow, so deep, and serious. I feel like you could be my protector or guard. How about it? Lily smirks as Alexander smiles.
ALEXANDER
For you….anything.
The dinner is paid for and the two exit the café.
EXT. OUTDOORS – NIGHT
After dinner, the two walk down the street toward Lily’s home. They get comfortable with one another while walking. Alexander puts his arm around Lily to keep her warm. Outside her home, Alexander asks
ALEXANDER
This has been a most entertaining evening. I hope I don’t intimidate you because I am your new protector.
LILY
Intimidated? No. But lucky? I’d say so!
ALEXANDER

Lily walks to her front door and unlocks the door then slightly pushes it open. She turns around LILY
How about now?
Lily walks inside. Alexander pauses a moment then walks into the house and closes the door.
INT. LILY’S HOME – NIGHT
Alexander follows a trail of clothing leading up the stairs. He picks up pieces and stops to smell the clothing. Further, he finds the bedroom door open and walks in.
ALEXANDER
Am I dreaming? My heart is pounding. I think I am in lo…
Alexander walks into the bedroom. Lily is laying on her Esse Chaise. The room is dimly lit. Alexander drops the clothes and walks towards her. Lily holds out her hand and pulls him toward her.
LILY

ALEXANDER

LILY

INT. LILYS KITCHEN – DAY

So she fights and cooks? What a catch!
Alexander claims her cooking is satisfactory.

I have yet to get that far, what are my options?
ALEXANDER

So I was thinking, if you are up for it we could…Shortly after a text goes through to his phone and reads “CALL”. Alexander reads the message and stares at the phone for a moment and puts the phone back in his pants pocket. Alexander looks at Lily
ALEXANDER
That was work, they need me for something. Can we meet up tonight?
Lily sighs and looks at Alexander.
ALEXANDER
I promise it will be quick and only part of the day.
Lily smiles
LILY
I understand, I can keep busy until then.
ALEXANDER
Thank you
Alexander kisses Lily as she holds on to the kiss
LILY
Don’t be long!
Alexander makes his way out of the front door.
