There are dog lovers, and then, there are DOG LOVERS! Liberator’s artist of the week, Zak Krevitt is a fan of the puppy play subculture—a form of kink play that lets people explore their inner animal instincts. He was given exclusive access in 2014 and created a provocative photo series entitled Alpha, Beta, Omega. His photography documents pup play devotees exploring their animalistic side in all types of settings.
The Evolution of Zak Krevitt
There is truth in applying yourself to no matter what you do. Zak Krevitt lives and works in New York City—one of the most competitive areas for fine art photography. Before making it “big” he attended the School of Visual Arts, earning a BFA and the Mapplethorpe Foundation Award. Although his work is primarily focused on the queer community, it is nonetheless striking and imposing.
Skirting around sex, for some artists and photographers, can become a conversation in pornography, sensationalism, if not total exploitation. What makes Krevitt’s work so unique is it’s not objectifying the LGBTQ community. Instead, his work elevates and explores individuals that are often overlooked in the world of erotic art. Through his lens, he’s bringing the conversation about puppy play into the mainstream. He is able to capture his subjects intimately and emotionally connecting. The photography becomes less about sex and more about documenting those connections.
